Important safety & preparation before your home visit.
To ensure safe, pain-free microsuction and avoid unnecessary clinical fees, please read our preparation protocol and red-flag checklist below.

Step 1: Screen for urgent medical symptoms.
Routine home microsuction is designed for wax blockage and general ear care. Certain acute symptoms require urgent emergency intervention by an ENT doctor or NHS A&E.
Urgent Medical Safety Warning (Red-Flag Symptoms)
Please read carefully before requesting a home audiology visit.
- Sudden or rapid hearing loss in one or both ears (within the last 72 hours)
- Active bleeding or foul-smelling fluid discharge from the ear canal
- Severe ear pain, swelling, or tenderness around the outer ear or earlobe
- Acute dizziness, spinning vertigo, or loss of balance associated with ear symptoms
- History of recent ear surgery or known perforated eardrum without clinical clearance
If you or the patient are experiencing any of the symptoms above, do not proceed with routine home microsuction booking. Please contact NHS 111, your GP, or visit your nearest emergency department immediately for urgent medical evaluation.
Call NHS 111Step 2: Soften the ear wax with olive oil.
Dry, impacted ear wax can be stubborn and uncomfortable to remove. Following our simple 3-day softening protocol ensures a smooth, quiet, and rapid microsuction procedure.
1. Apply Olive Oil
Use standard medical-grade olive oil drops (available at any chemist). Put 2 to 3 drops into the affected ear 2 to 3 times a day for at least 2 to 3 days before your appointment.
2. Allow Absorption
Tilt your head or lie on your side for 5 minutes after applying the drops so the oil penetrates deep into the ear canal and softens the hardened keratin and wax plug.
3. Gentle Microsuction
Once softened, our visiting audiologist can effortlessly vacuum out the debris under high-definition video otoscopy in just minutes without touching the eardrum.
